MINUTES OF THE OCTOBER 12, 2021 MONTHLY SUPERVISORS’ MEETING
The Mahoning Township Supervisors held
their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. which
was help at the Mahoning Township Building.
Chairman, Gary Pezzuolo called the meeting to order by asking everyone
present to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. flag.
ROLL CALL was taken by Jean Greco, Secretary. Members present were Mark Sackin and Gary Pezzuolo.
Township Solicitor, Engineer, and Police Chief were also present. Supervisor Vito Yeropoli was absent.
Pezzuolo asked for
any guest speakers and/or guests to share their concerns. Resident Tawnya Rodgers expressed concern for
the lack of guard rails on Jacobson Road.
Pezzuolo asked for motion to PAY THE BILLS as prepared by Greco since the last month’s meeting. The motion was made by Pezzuolo and seconded
by Sackin with a vote of all in favor. Pezzuolo
asked for a motion to PAY THE PAYROLLS as
prepared by Greco since the last month’s meeting. The motion was made by Sackin and seconded
by Pezzuolo with a vote of all in favor.
Pezzuolo asked
Greco for announcements. Trick or Treat
hours were set for Sunday, October 31, 2021 from 4 – 6:00 p.m. and the annual
fire department party immediately following.
Also, the Bessemer Library requested an officer be present for Trunk or
Treat which Sipe agreed to.
TOWNSHIP REPORTS were given as follows:
ZONING
by Greco – 2 building permits. PLANNING
was reported by Dave Rogers with 2 subdivisions. MOTION was made by Sackin to accept
the Brown Subdivision and seconded by Pezzuolo with a vote of all in
favor. MOTION was made by
Pezzuolo for the New Castle Limestone Subdivision and seconded by Sacking with
a vote of al in favor. The FIRE
DEPARTMENT report was given by Poncho Exposito with 266 calls year to date
through the end of September.
The POLICE DEPARTMENT report by Chief Robert Sipe with 95 total incidents
for the month of September 2021. Chief
Sipe also noted the recent loss of K9 Vex and a recent acceptance of full-time
officer Joseph Sager who is going to the state police academy. Pezzuolo made a MOTION to accept the
resignation and Sackin seconded with a vote of all in favor. Pezzuolo then made
a MOTION to rehire long time officer Brian Magliocca as a full time officer.
Pezzuolo asked for
discussion for any UNFINISHED BUSINESS in which there was none.
Moving
onto NEW BUSINESS Pezzuolo asked for a MOTION to hire Philip Weiner CPAs for the ANNUAL AUDIT. Sackin made the motion which Pezzuolo seconded
and the vote was all in favor.
Next, Pezzuolo
brought up the topic of contracting with a new 3rd party for
municipal code enforcement. An agreement
was presented in which language agreed needed to be reviewed and adjusted by
Solicitor Perrotta. This topic was
tabled.
Pezzuolo
then started discussion on scheduling the 2021 budget meetings. Greco noted the 3 day requirement would be
met if schedule for the next 2 regular monthly meetings. It was agreed to hold the preliminary budget
meeting on November 9 and the final budget meeting on December 14 each at 5:45
p.m.
Pezzuolo asked for any other discussion
which led to the completion of paving on Jacobson road. Pezzuolo noted for 2022, the goal was going
to try to reach $150K in paving. Sackin
talked about replacement of a pipe on Baird Road. Resident Roberta Penwell noted a bad road
condition on Churchill which Sackin noted it would be taken care of. Penwell
also asked about Sheriff sales and conditions of homes. Rodgers expressed continued concern of River
Road. Discussion took place on using the
zipper or renting equipment to grade and reclaim the road.
There being nothing further Pezzuolo
made a motion to ADJOURN which was seconded
by Sackin with a vote of all in favor.
